Forest Fires in Aceh Expand to 90 Hectares
Forest and land fires (karhutla) in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, are reportedly expanding. To date, the burned area is estimated to have reached between 60 and 90 hectares. Authorities are continuing efforts to extinguish the flames to prevent them from spreading further into residential areas.
Extreme weather conditions are the primary reason these fires are difficult to control. Extremely hot temperatures and strong winds have caused the fire to spread rapidly, particularly in dry peatland areas. Additionally, the lack of rainfall in the region over the past few days has worsened the situation on the ground.
Joint personnel from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the National Police (Polri) are working hard to extinguish the hotspots. However, they face various obstacles, such as fire locations that are difficult for vehicles to reach and very limited water sources. There are also growing concerns that the thick smoke from these fires will affect the health and activities of the community surrounding the location.
The local government urges the public to remain vigilant and avoid activities that could trigger fires, such as clearing land by burning. If the hot weather continues, the fire has the potential to spread even further. Firefighting teams remain on standby at the location to monitor the situation and prevent a greater impact on the environment.
