Concerns Rise as Northern Ireland Health Service Records Over 5,000 Complaints
A new report has highlighted growing concerns regarding the quality of healthcare in Northern Ireland. Between April and December 2025, the six Health and Social Care Trusts across the region received a total of 5,222 formal complaints from patients and their families.
The Northern Trust, which serves a large portion of the population, accounted for 896 of these complaints. This figure represents 17% of the total number of grievances recorded across all regional health trusts during the nine-month period.
These statistics have sparked a wider conversation about the current state of the health service. Many patients have expressed frustration regarding long waiting times, staffing shortages, and the overall quality of care provided in hospitals and community clinics.
Health officials are now under pressure to address these issues and improve communication with the public. While the trusts are working to manage the high volume of patients, these figures suggest that many people feel their needs are not being met by the current system.
As the health service continues to face these challenges, the government is expected to review how complaints are handled. For many residents, these numbers serve as a clear sign that urgent changes are needed to ensure better standards of care across Northern Ireland.
