Gardaí avoid industrial action ahead of US President’s visit to Ireland
The threat of industrial action by frontline gardaí has been officially averted. Members of the Garda Representative Association (GRA) had previously considered taking specific actions regarding their working conditions ahead of the upcoming visit by US President Donald Trump.
However, the planned protests have been cancelled, ensuring that security operations for the high-profile visit will proceed as scheduled. The GRA had expressed significant concerns regarding the current working environment for officers, which prompted the initial discussions about potential action.
While the threat of industrial action has been removed, the GRA is expected to continue discussions with authorities to address their ongoing grievances. The union remains focused on improving the conditions for gardaí across the country in the coming months.
Security preparations for the US President’s visit to Ireland next weekend remain a top priority for the government. With the dispute resolved, the focus now shifts to managing the logistical and safety requirements of the international visit.
