Irish Rail Awards €95 Million Contract to Alstom for New Signalling Technology
Irish Rail has officially announced a new €95 million contract with the global transport company Alstom. This significant investment is part of a plan to upgrade the national rail network’s technology and improve the efficiency of train services across the country.
The agreement focuses on the implementation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 1. This advanced signalling technology is designed to improve safety and allow for more reliable train movements. The contract covers the entire process, including the design, manufacture, and installation of the new equipment.
In addition to installing the technology, Alstom will be responsible for the testing, commissioning, and long-term maintenance of the onboard systems. The equipment will be fitted to a large number of trains, ensuring that the fleet meets modern European safety and performance standards.
This project is a key part of Irish Rail’s ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure. By investing in digital signalling, the company aims to increase the capacity of the rail network and provide a more consistent service for passengers throughout Ireland.
The partnership between Irish Rail and Alstom is expected to take place over the coming years. As the technology is rolled out, commuters can expect improvements in how trains are managed, contributing to a more modern and effective public transport system.
