Public Sector Unions Demand Urgent Pay Talks from Government
Public sector workers in Ireland are waiting for the Government to present a new proposal regarding pay. Kevin Callinan, the secretary general of the Fórsa trade union, has stated that the Government has only “hours, not days” to provide a credible plan to begin formal negotiations.
This demand comes as unions seek to address the rising cost of living and ensure that public sector wages remain fair. Fórsa represents a large number of employees across the civil and public service, and their leadership is now putting significant pressure on officials to move quickly.
If the Government fails to offer a satisfactory proposal, it could lead to increased tension between the state and its employees. Unions have made it clear that they are prepared to act if their request for urgent talks is ignored.
At this stage, the Department of Public Expenditure is expected to respond to the unions' ultimatum shortly. The outcome of these discussions will be important for thousands of workers across the country, including those in health, education, and local government services.
As the deadline approaches, both sides are under pressure to reach an agreement that prevents industrial action. Further updates are expected as the Government reviews its position on the upcoming pay talks.
