Public sector workers begin industrial action across Ireland
More than 100,000 public sector workers in Ireland have started a 'work-to-rule' campaign this week. This form of industrial action means that employees will strictly follow their official job descriptions and will not perform any extra tasks or overtime work.
This action is part of a larger dispute between trade unions and the government. The unions are protesting against current working conditions and pay agreements. By limiting their work, employees hope to put pressure on officials to return to the negotiating table.
In addition to the current work-to-rule, other public sector unions are expected to join the campaign in the coming days. These groups are preparing for further disruption as the dispute continues to grow across various government departments.
Looking ahead, the situation is set to escalate next month. Unions have already announced two major strike days planned for 14 and 21 October. If an agreement is not reached before these dates, many public services across the country could face significant delays and closures.
