Tallaght University Hospital to Close Paediatric Services for Five Days
Parents and guardians in Dublin are being advised of a temporary closure of paediatric services at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) in Tallaght. The department is scheduled to shut its doors starting from midnight this Thursday and will remain closed until Tuesday morning.
Health officials have confirmed that the closure is necessary due to staffing shortages. During this five-day period, the hospital will be unable to accept children who require emergency or urgent care. Families are being urged to make alternative arrangements if their child becomes unwell during this time.
For those in need of urgent medical attention, the HSE recommends visiting other emergency departments in the city, such as CHI at Crumlin or Temple Street. Patients with non-emergency issues are encouraged to contact their local GP or an out-of-hours service like D-Doc before travelling to a hospital.
Management at the hospital expressed regret for the disruption and stated that they are working to restore normal services as quickly as possible. They emphasized that this decision was made to ensure the safety of patients, as there are not enough staff members available to provide the required level of care over the weekend.
Local health authorities are monitoring the situation closely. Families are advised to check the official HSE website or the hospital’s social media channels for any further updates before seeking medical help.
