Hospital Staff Across Ireland Plan One-Day Industrial Action
Thousands of hospital workers across Ireland are preparing for a day of industrial action on 30th September. The protest, organised by the SIPTU trade union, will involve staff members working in 30 of the country’s largest hospitals.
Kevin Figgis, the SIPTU Health Divisional Organiser, confirmed the plans this week. The action is part of a wider campaign by the union to address ongoing concerns regarding working conditions and pay within the public health sector. Union representatives state that this move is necessary to highlight the challenges faced by their members.
Patients attending these hospitals on the day of the action may experience some disruption to services. While emergency departments and essential care are expected to continue, the union has warned that routine appointments and non-urgent procedures could be affected by the one-day strike.
Health officials and hospital management are currently reviewing contingency plans to manage the impact on the public. Both the union and the health authorities are encouraging patients to check their local hospital’s website or social media channels for updates before travelling to appointments on 30th September.
