Police send file to DPP regarding Sinn Féin fraud investigation
Detectives in Ireland have officially sent a large investigation file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The file, which contains nearly 600 pages, concerns an ongoing fraud investigation involving two Sinn Féin politicians based in Cork.
The two individuals named in the investigation are Thomas Gould, a Teachta Dála (TD) for Cork North Central, and Councillor Kenneth Collins. The investigation relates to allegations of financial irregularities totaling approximately €200,000.
Gardai have been conducting a detailed inquiry into the matter for some time. The submission of this extensive file is a significant step in the legal process, as the DPP must now review the evidence to decide whether criminal charges should be brought against the politicians.
Both Thomas Gould and Kenneth Collins have been aware of the investigation as it progressed. At this stage, the file is being examined by legal experts to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed with a prosecution in court.
As the case is now with the DPP, no further legal action can be taken until a formal decision is made. The public and the political community are waiting to see how the authorities will respond to the findings presented by the detectives.
