Surgeon resigns following controversy over spinal surgeries at Children’s Health Ireland
A surgeon at the centre of a major medical controversy has officially resigned from his position at Children’s Health Ireland (CHI). The surgeon, Dr. Green, had been under investigation following reports that he used non-medical grade springs during spinal operations on young patients.
An investigation conducted last year by the health watchdog, HIQA, confirmed that these unauthorised materials were implanted into three children. The discovery raised serious concerns regarding patient safety and the standards of surgical procedures performed at the hospital.
Following the publication of the HIQA report, the hospital launched a review into the surgeon’s practices. The resignation marks a significant development in a case that has caused distress for the affected families and raised questions about oversight within the paediatric healthcare system.
Children’s Health Ireland has stated that it is continuing to support the families involved in the review. The hospital remains under pressure to ensure that all surgical equipment meets strict medical safety standards to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
