Workplace heat limits proposed & Newry crash death
Today’s briefing covers a new proposal for maximum workplace temperatures and the conviction of a former political leader. We also report on a fatal road accident in Newry involving a young child.
You could soon have a legal right to a maximum temperature in your workplace under new legislation being developed by the Labour Party. If passed, the law would set a clear limit on how hot a work environment can get before employers are required to take action.
Taoiseach (Irish prime minister) Micheál Martin has condemned the "evil and horrific" crimes of former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson following his conviction on Monday. Donaldson, a former MP for the Democratic Unionist Party in Northern Ireland, was found guilty of 18 sex offences against two women, including one count of rape, which occurred when the victims were children.
A six-year-old girl has died following a road accident involving a van in Newry, County Down. Police confirmed that Kourtney Khloe McCormick died after the incident, which involved a black Ford Tourneo van in the Springfarm area. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
