Ireland’s Tech Sector Sees Significant Job Losses Early This Year
The Irish technology sector has experienced a difficult start to the year, with new figures showing a sharp decline in employment. According to recent data, approximately 20,300 jobs were lost in the IT industry during the first three months of the year.
At the beginning of the year, the sector supported 189,720 positions across the country. However, following these recent cuts, the total number of people employed in the industry has fallen to just over 169,000.
This reduction represents a notable shift for Ireland’s economy, which has long been a major European hub for global technology companies. While the sector has seen rapid growth in previous years, this recent data highlights a period of contraction for many businesses operating within the country.
Industry experts are now monitoring the situation closely to see if this downward trend will continue throughout the remainder of the year. For now, the focus remains on the impact these job losses will have on the broader Irish labour market.
