GP Payments Reach Record High in Ireland
General Practitioner (GP) practices in Ireland received a record amount of funding through the Primary Care Reimbursement Service (PCRS) last year. New figures show that the total payment reached €985.9 million, marking a 4% increase compared to the €949.23 million paid out in 2024.
Data reveals that 14 individual GP practices each received over €1 million in payments during this period. These funds are distributed to support the delivery of primary healthcare services across the country, covering costs for patients who hold medical cards or GP visit cards.
This rise in expenditure reflects the growing demand for primary care services within the Irish health system. The PCRS is responsible for managing these payments, which allow doctors to provide free or subsidised care to eligible patients under various state schemes.
As the government continues to invest in the health sector, these figures highlight the significant financial role that private GP practices play in the national health infrastructure. The increase in funding is part of a broader trend of rising costs in the delivery of medical services in Ireland.
