Warning to travelers: Unusual pollution in northern streams
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Health have issued a serious warning in recent days to travelers in the north of the country. During routine water quality tests conducted in streams in the Galilee and the Golan, high and unusual levels of fecal coliform bacteria were found, indicating water contamination.
The warning concerns several streams that are very popular among families and travelers, including the Banias Stream, the Hasbani Stream, and the Jordan River in certain sections. The authorities emphasize that entering the water at these sites could pose a health risk to bathers, as the water does not meet the required quality standards.
The pollution was discovered following samples taken from the streams, and the results showed significant deviations from the permitted values. Experts explain that this is a risk that could lead to infectious diseases, and therefore the public is requested to avoid bathing in the streams marked as prohibited until further notice.
The government ministries continue to conduct periodic tests to monitor water quality and update the public as soon as possible. Travelers are requested to check the Israel Nature and Parks Authority or the Ministry of Environmental Protection website before setting out on a trip to ensure that the site is safe for visiting and bathing.
