Taiwanese court sentences masseuse who caused injury to a client
A district court in the city of Taichung, Taiwan, sentenced a local masseuse to six months in prison this week. The woman was convicted of the crime of practicing medicine illegally after causing serious physical harm to one of her clients during a treatment.
According to the indictment, the masseuse performed a series of prolonged treatments during which she applied excessive pressure to the patient's body. As a result of these unprofessional actions, a breast implant was ruptured, which led to the need for urgent medical treatment and caused the woman great suffering.
During the trial, the judge ruled that the masseuse had exceeded her authority and performed medical procedures without proper training or legal authorization. The case caused a stir in Taiwan and once again raised awareness of the importance of verifying the credentials of professionals in the health and wellness fields.
The affair highlights the risks involved in receiving physical treatments from individuals who are not qualified to provide them. Health authorities in Taiwan are calling on the public to exercise great caution and to consult only with authorized practitioners who hold an official license, in order to prevent similar cases in the future.
