Rafael Chairman warns: Shortage of engineers threatens Israel's defense industry
Prof. Yuval Steinitz, Chairman of Rafael and former Minister of Finance, addressed the significant challenges facing Israel's defense industry in an interview on the "Market Forces" podcast. According to him, the country is facing increasing difficulty in retaining high-quality personnel in the fields of engineering and technology.
Steinitz explained that giant international companies, led by chipmaker Nvidia, are attracting the most talented engineers in Israel. The competition for skilled workers makes it difficult for Israeli defense companies to offer conditions similar to those of major high-tech firms.
The Rafael Chairman's primary concern is that this brain drain will impair Israel's ability to develop advanced defense technologies. He stated that this is a strategic asset for the country, and a lack of skilled personnel could lead to a slowdown in defense innovation at a time when the need for it is growing.
Alongside these challenges, there has recently been evidence of foreign investor confidence in the local industry. The American venture capital firm 8VC recently made its first investment in an Israeli defense technology company, indicating that Israel's technological potential is still considered highly attractive to the world.
In conclusion, the technological labor market in Israel is at a turning point. While the demand for Israeli technology remains high, the state and the defense industry will need to find creative ways to retain the best engineers and experts within the local system.
