Public Warning: Mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus found in central and northern Israel
The Ministry of Environmental Protection updated this morning (Friday) that during routine monitoring activities, mosquitoes were captured that were found to be infected with the West Nile virus. The infected mosquitoes were discovered in various areas in the north and center of the country, which led to new guidelines for residents in these regions.
Following the findings, the Ministry of Environmental Protection instructed local authorities to increase monitoring and extermination activities in the areas where the mosquitoes were found. The goal is to reduce mosquito breeding and prevent the spread of the virus among the population.
The public is requested to take precautionary measures to reduce the risk of bites. Recommendations include using mosquito repellent products, installing screens on windows, and limiting time spent outdoors during the evening and night hours, which are the mosquitoes' primary hours of activity.
In addition, the Ministry calls on residents to drain standing water sources in yards and around homes, as these provide an ideal environment for laying eggs and mosquito reproduction. This simple action can significantly help in preventing the spread of the disease.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection will continue to monitor the situation and update the public on any further developments. Residents in the relevant areas are advised to remain vigilant and report any standing water or significant mosquito hazards to their local authority.
