Danger Online: The Rise in Sex Crimes on the Telegram App
In recent years, the internet has become a central arena for criminal activity, with one of the most alarming phenomena being the rise in sex crimes committed on the Telegram app. Cybersecurity experts warn that this is a new type of digital terrorism that personally and severely harms women and men in Israel.
According to reports, criminals use the app to extort money from their victims. They obtain sensitive photos or personal information and threaten to release them publicly if the victim does not pay large sums of money. This trap causes heavy financial damage, but beyond that, it inflicts deep psychological harm on the victims.
One of the greatest challenges in addressing this phenomenon is the difficulty police face in locating the perpetrators. Because of the anonymous nature of the Telegram app, many criminals feel protected and are not afraid of getting caught. As a result, many victims are afraid to file a police report, which allows the criminals to continue operating without interference.
Cyber risk expert Einat Miron emphasizes that it is very important to be aware of these dangers. She recommends that the public exercise extra caution when using social networks, avoid sharing personal information with strangers, and use strict privacy settings to protect personal data.
In conclusion, the fight against digital terrorism requires cooperation between law enforcement authorities and the public. Greater awareness of the dangers and cautious behavior online are the most important tools that can help each of us avoid falling into these dangerous traps.
