Rise in West Nile Fever Cases: New Guidelines for the Public

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection have reported in recent days the detection of mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus in various regions across Israel. The infected mosquitoes were located in numerous sites, including Petah Tikva, Kafr Qasim, Kafr Bara, and the area of Ben Gurion Airport.

West Nile fever is a viral disease transmitted to humans through the bite of a mosquito that has contracted the virus. In most cases, the disease causes mild, flu-like symptoms, such as fever, headaches, and muscle aches. However, in elderly individuals or those with weakened immune systems, the disease can lead to significant medical complications.

The authorities are currently working to monitor the affected areas and are carrying out pest control operations to reduce the spread of mosquitoes. The Ministry of Environmental Protection is calling on local authorities to increase monitoring efforts and treat stagnant water sources, which provide a favorable environment for mosquito breeding.

To protect themselves, the Ministry of Health recommends that the public use mosquito repellent products, install screens on house windows, and wear long clothing during the evening and night hours. Additionally, it is important to drain stagnant water sources in yards and on balconies to prevent the development of mosquitoes near the home.

The public is requested to continue following the Ministry of Health's guidelines and to consult a doctor in the event of symptoms appearing after a bite. The authorities emphasize that public awareness and cooperation are the most important tools for preventing further illness.
