Likud MK Eliyahu Revivo withdraws from primaries
Likud party Member of Knesset Eliyahu Revivo officially announced today (Thursday) that he will not run in the party's primary elections, which are scheduled to take place next week.
In his statement, MK Revivo explained the reasons for his decision. He criticized the party's "reserved spots" system, arguing that it makes it difficult for incumbent Knesset members to succeed and get re-elected in the internal democratic process.
The reserved spots system allows the party chairman to appoint candidates of his choosing to specific positions on the Knesset list, without the need for a vote by party members. Critics of the system argue that it harms the chances of other candidates to be included on the list in a fair manner.
Revivo's decision has sparked significant interest in the political arena, as it is a surprising move just days before the primaries. Now, Likud members are preparing for the upcoming vote to determine the final composition of the party's list ahead of the general elections.
