Heavy Mourning: Staff Sergeant Tamir Vaknin (of blessed memory) fell in battle in Southern Lebanon
The IDF has cleared for publication the name of Staff Sergeant Tamir Vaknin (of blessed memory), a reservist combat soldier and medic from Eilat, who fell in battle in Southern Lebanon. Vaknin was killed alongside his company commander as a result of an explosive device detonated against the force during operational activity in the area.
Tamir Vaknin (of blessed memory) was known among his friends and family as a person of values and dedication. His brother, Yoav, spoke in an interview with "Maariv" about Tamir's character, describing him as someone who always made sure to report for reserve duty out of a deep sense of mission. According to him, Tamir was an optimistic person who always cared for those around him and spread light wherever he went.
Vaknin's death joins a long list of soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the security of the country since the beginning of the fighting on the northern border. The incident highlights the complex challenges that IDF forces are facing in Lebanon, which include dealing with explosive devices and ambushes by the Hezbollah organization.
