Israel prepares for the transition to winter time: everything you need to know
The days are getting shorter and the weather is starting to change, which is a clear sign that Israel is about to switch to winter time. The transition to winter time occurs every year at the end of October, marking the end of the long daylight saving time period.
According to Israeli law, the transition to winter time always takes place on the last Sunday before the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), but in practice, the date ranges between October 25th and 31st. This year, the transition will take place this coming weekend, when we will turn the clocks back one hour on the night between Saturday and Sunday.
Moving the clock affects everyone's daily routine. When we turn the clock back one hour, the sun will set earlier in the afternoon. However, this change allows us to enjoy an extra hour of sleep on the night the transition occurs, which is an advantage for many.
Most modern digital devices, such as smartphones and computers, perform the update automatically. However, it is recommended to ensure that the clock settings on your devices are set to automatic update to avoid confusion with schedules on Sunday morning.
The transition to winter time is a reminder that winter is approaching. It is recommended to use the coming days to prepare for the changes in daylight hours and to adjust your personal schedule to the new times.
