Huge fire in the Ben Shemen area: Heavy traffic congestion on major roads
A large forest fire broke out today (Tuesday) in the area of the Ben Shemen Interchange, leading to significant traffic blockages on Israel's central routes. Fire and rescue forces are operating in the field to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading toward residential areas and infrastructure facilities.
Following the heavy smoke and the danger to drivers, the police decided to close Highway 1 and Highway 6 in the area of the interchange in both directions. The closures have created very heavy traffic congestion in the area, and many drivers are being asked to avoid the area and choose alternative routes.
Firefighting forces are operating on-site with reinforced units. No fewer than 21 firefighting teams are in the field, joined by four special aircraft assisting in extinguishing the fire from the air. Efforts are focused on containing the flames and preventing harm to life and property.
As of now, there are no known casualties resulting from the fire. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and ask the public to follow the instructions of the police officers and firefighters stationed in the area. Further updates are expected later today regarding the reopening of the roads.
