Four months after his death: Ofer Moskovich to be laid to rest for a second time
Four months after he was accidentally killed by IDF fire, Ofer (Pushko) Moskovich will be laid to rest today for the second time. Moskovich, who was a well-known and highly respected figure in the agricultural settlement of the Upper Galilee, was killed this past March in a tragic incident.
The incident occurred when soldiers from an artillery battery of the 282nd Fire Brigade of the 36th Division opened fire in the area where Moskovich was located. Due to a case of mistaken identity, Moskovich was struck by the fire and pronounced dead at the scene. His death stunned the residents of the Galilee and everyone who knew of his many years of work for agriculture in the region.
The decision to hold a second funeral comes after a long and complex process of investigating the circumstances of the case. The family and the community now wish to pay their final respects in an orderly ceremony, as the tragic event has left a great void among his friends and family members.
The IDF expressed deep sorrow over the incident and noted that the matter is being investigated in depth in order to draw lessons and prevent similar cases in the future. Moskovich will be remembered as someone who dedicated his life to working the land and developing settlement in the Galilee, a legacy that will continue to accompany the region even after his passing.
