New study warns: The link between nicotine products and adolescent mental health
Ahead of the start of the school year, experts are expressing growing concern over the use of nicotine products among students and teenagers in Israel. New studies point to an alarming link between the use of these products and an increase in rates of depression and anxiety among young people.
Although many of these products do not contain traditional tobacco, they still contain nicotine, a highly addictive substance that affects the developing brains of teenagers. Researchers explain that nicotine use can alter brain chemistry, which often leads to the worsening of existing mental health conditions or the development of new symptoms.
Moshe Bar-Haim, CEO of the Israel Cancer Association, emphasizes that this is a dangerous phenomenon that requires immediate attention. According to him, parents and educators must be aware of the dangers inherent in these products, which sometimes appear innocent but cause significant physical and mental harm.
Awareness of the issue is particularly important at this time of year, as many teenagers return to school and are exposed to social pressure. Experts are calling for increased education in schools and at home to protect the health of young people and prevent the use of these products from an early age.
