Severe malfunction in genetic testing for breast cancer detection in Israel
The Ministry of Health and the company 'Gamidor' reported this morning (Tuesday) on a significant malfunction discovered in genetic tests for detecting the BRCA 1 gene mutation. This gene is known as a major factor in increasing the risk of developing breast cancer and other types of cancer.
According to initial details, the malfunction was discovered after unusually similar results were found among examinees from the same family and the same ethnic group. The findings raised suspicions among medical teams, who began to investigate the reliability of the laboratory and the integrity of the diagnostic process.
Gamidor is currently working in cooperation with health authorities to understand the scope of the malfunction and the number of patients affected by it. Experts emphasize that this is a serious incident, as an error in genetic test results could lead to incorrect medical decisions for women and men at risk.
The Ministry of Health is expected to issue detailed instructions for anyone who has undergone the test in the recent period. Patients who received results from the laboratory are asked to wait for official updates and to contact their attending physician if necessary to evaluate the need for a re-test.
