Indictment filed against Beersheba resident for extortion by threats

The Southern District Attorney's Office filed a severe indictment this week against Ran Amkayis, a 24-year-old resident of Beersheba, for offenses of extortion by threats. According to the suspicion, the defendant threatened a resident of the Negev and demanded a significant sum of money from him without any legal justification.

The incident began when a friend of Amkayis tried to purchase a vehicle from the same person. After the deal did not go through as planned, Amkayis decided to intervene in the situation. According to the indictment, he contacted the vehicle owner and demanded that he pay him the sum of 10,000 shekels.

During the conversation, the defendant made severe threats toward the victim, telling him: "Bring 10,000 shekels or you're finished." The threats caused great alarm for the victim, who decided to turn to the police and file an official complaint regarding the incident.

Following the complaint, the police launched a swift investigation that led to the arrest of Amkayis. Investigators gathered evidence against the suspect, and as a result, it was decided to file an indictment against him at the Beersheba District Court.

This case joins a series of violence and extortion incidents reported in the southern region recently. Law enforcement authorities emphasize that they are acting decisively to eradicate phenomena of extortion and threats and to ensure the safety of citizens.
