Increase in the use of explosives by drug cartels in Mexico
In recent weeks, security officials in Mexico have reported an alarming rise in the use of dangerous weaponry by criminal organizations. According to reports, drug cartels in the country have begun using explosives as part of their violent conflicts with each other and against local security forces.
In the state of Zacatecas, which is at the center of the fighting, 23 attacks involving the use of explosives have been recorded since the beginning of the year. Of these incidents, in six separate cases, explosives were planted inside cars or on motorcycles with the intent to target specific objectives.
The criminal organization known as the "Jalisco New Generation Cartel" is the primary entity behind the use of these methods. The use of improvised explosive devices indicates a shift in the cartels' operational tactics, as they move from using only small arms to employing more complex and dangerous offensive means.
The security situation in Mexico is raising concerns within the international community, as the escalating violence is affecting stability in the region. Mexican authorities are attempting to address this new challenge, but experts warn that this is a significant escalation that could lead to broader harm to the civilian population.
