Concern in Israel: US may allow Saudi Arabia to enrich uranium
In recent days, concern has been growing within Israel's security and political establishment regarding the advanced negotiations between the United States and Saudi Arabia. According to reports, the American administration is considering the possibility of allowing Saudi Arabia to operate a nuclear program for civilian purposes on the kingdom's soil.
Israel's official position on this matter is complex. On one hand, political sources in Jerusalem clarify that Israel has no principled objection to Saudi Arabia developing nuclear capabilities for energy and civilian development needs. This is part of the efforts to expand regional cooperation and strengthen ties between the countries.
However, Israel expresses firm opposition to the establishment of a uranium enrichment facility within Saudi territory. The Israeli concern is that such infrastructure could pose a significant security risk, as enrichment technology could, under certain conditions, also be used in the future to develop military capabilities.
Discussions on this issue are ongoing, as the American administration attempts to balance the desire to promote regional agreements with the need to maintain Israel's security and the policy of preventing nuclear proliferation in the Middle East. At this stage, no final decision has been made on the matter.
