Israel Prison Service places director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in solitary confinement
About a week ago, the Israel Prison Service placed Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, into solitary confinement. Dr. Abu Safiya has been held in detention in Israel for over a year and a half.
The decision to transfer him to solitary confinement was made shortly after a legal appeal was filed regarding his case. Dr. Abu Safiya was arrested during the fighting in the Gaza Strip and has since been under the supervision of Israeli security authorities.
Kamal Adwan Hospital, which the doctor headed, has been the focus of numerous reports during the war. Israeli security officials have previously claimed that terrorist organizations used medical facilities in the Strip for military purposes, a claim that led to extensive military activity in the area.
As of now, no further details have been provided by the Israel Prison Service regarding the exact reasons for the decision to place the detainee in solitary confinement. Dr. Abu Safiya's lawyers continue to pursue legal proceedings regarding his ongoing detention.
