The new technology that will turn your router into a security camera
A new technological revolution is about to change the way we use internet routers at home. A new software update allows existing routers to become smart motion detectors, without the need to install additional cameras or sensors in the rooms.
The system works using the Wi-Fi waves present in every home. When radio waves hit a moving human body, a small change in the wireless frequency is created. The new technology identifies these changes and analyzes them, allowing it to know if there is a person in the room or if there is movement in the house.
The main advantage of this development is the ability to detect motion even through walls. This means that the system can serve as an effective security tool, or even assist in the care of an elderly population that requires supervision, without compromising the privacy of household members with video cameras.
However, the technology raises important questions regarding user privacy. Security experts point out that the use of radio waves for tracking requires strong data protection to ensure that unauthorized parties cannot monitor what is happening inside private homes.
As of now, this is a software-only change, which means that in the near future, we may be able to turn our existing equipment into a smart protection system. The developers hope that the technology will become a new standard in the smart home field in Israel and around the world.
