Concern in Israel: US may allow Saudi Arabia to enrich uranium
In recent days, concern has been growing within Israel's security establishment regarding the contacts between the United States and Saudi Arabia. According to reports, the American administration is considering the possibility of allowing Saudi Arabia to develop a nuclear program for civilian purposes, as part of broader diplomatic moves in the region.
Israel's official position on this matter is complex. On one hand, political sources in Jerusalem clarify that there is no principled objection to the development of nuclear energy for peaceful, civilian needs in the Saudi kingdom. However, Israel expresses firm opposition to the establishment of a uranium enrichment facility within Saudi territory.
The primary concern in Israel is that such a facility could pose a significant security risk in the future. Security officials fear that local uranium enrichment could lead to a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, which would alter the regional balance of power and pose new challenges to the country's security.
At this stage, the contacts between Washington and Riyadh are ongoing, and Israel continues to monitor developments closely. The government is expected to continue holding discussions with the American administration to ensure that Israel's security interests are upheld in any future agreement that may be signed.
