Warning to job seekers: Iranian hacker group operating on LinkedIn
Information security experts are warning of a dangerous new espionage campaign targeting employees in the high-tech industry in Israel and around the world. According to reports, an Iranian hacker group known as "Mirage Kitten" is using the professional social network LinkedIn to locate and attack software developers.
The attackers approach developers with enticing job offers and invite them to participate in "coding challenges" as part of the recruitment process. However, this is a trap: as soon as the candidate downloads the files necessary to perform the task, malicious software is installed on their computer, allowing the hackers to steal sensitive information from the personal computer or the corporate network.
The campaign focuses primarily on employees in the aviation and fintech (financial technology) sectors. Researchers note that the malicious software used by the group is highly advanced and capable of operating on various operating systems, making it difficult for standard antivirus software to detect early.
Cyber experts recommend that LinkedIn users exercise extreme caution when receiving job offers from unknown individuals. It is very important not to download files from unverified sources and not to run code received as part of suspicious or unofficial recruitment processes.
In case of a suspected attack attempt, it is recommended to report it to the information security department at the organization where you work and block the suspicious profile on the social network. Maintaining vigilance is the best way to protect your personal and professional information from hostile actors.
