Special operation in Haifa: Underwater robot locates 100-year-old unexploded ordnance
A complex engineering operation recently took place at the Port of Haifa, with the goal of ensuring the safety of maritime works. As part of a project to rehabilitate and reinforce the city's breakwater, advanced technology was used to scan the seabed and search for hazardous objects.
The project was carried out under the close supervision of the National Mine and Unexploded Ordnance Clearance Authority at the Ministry of Defense. The purpose of the operation was to clear the area of old unexploded ordnance, some 100 years old, which had remained on the seabed since various historical periods.
For this complex task, a special underwater robot was deployed to scan the area beneath the breakwater. The robot successfully located the unexploded ordnance without endangering human life, thereby allowing professional teams to handle them in a safe and controlled manner.
This action serves as a vital preliminary step for the maritime infrastructure works planned for the area. Thanks to the thorough cleanup, infrastructure workers will be able to continue their work on reinforcing the breakwater without fear of explosives or hazardous objects that could have detonated.
