Calabria, low turnout in by-elections: only 10% at the polls
The by-elections for the Chamber of Deputies in the Reggio Calabria-Locri district 5 took place yesterday. The electoral event, necessary to fill a vacant seat, however, recorded a very low figure regarding citizen participation.
According to official data released during the day, voter turnout was particularly poor. By 7:00 PM, in fact, only 10.26 percent of those eligible had gone to the polls to cast their vote.
This figure confirms a negative trend already observed in other recent electoral rounds in our country. The decline in interest in by-elections raises various reflections among political analysts regarding the relationship between citizens and local institutions.
Voting operations concluded regularly in the evening, despite the low participation. In the coming hours, the final results of the count are expected, which will determine the name of the new representative for the district in the Chamber of Deputies.
