Apple Watch on Android: a new project allows connection without an iPhone
A recent innovation in the technology world is attracting the attention of wearable device enthusiasts. A group of developers has created an open-source project that allows an Apple Watch Ultra 2 to be connected to an Android smartphone, eliminating the need to own an iPhone to set up the watch.
The operation of this system is based on the use of advanced tools such as Magisk root, which allows the phone's software to be modified to make it compatible with the Apple device. During initial tests, the developers used a OnePlus 13 and the latest version of watchOS 26.2, demonstrating that it is possible to make operating systems communicate that, officially, were designed to remain separate.
This novelty represents a significant change for users who prefer the flexibility of Android but wish to use the high-quality hardware produced by Apple. However, it is important to emphasize that this is a complex procedure, intended primarily for expert users and not officially supported by the Cupertino-based company.
Despite the success of the project, some technical limitations remain. Since Apple never intended for integration with Android, some advanced features of the watch may not be fully operational or stable. Nevertheless, the developers continue to work to improve compatibility and make the user experience smoother.
In conclusion, this experiment demonstrates how the open-source community is capable of overcoming the barriers imposed by major technology manufacturers. It remains to be seen whether Apple will decide to intervene to block these modifications or if, in the future, we will see greater openness toward interoperability between devices of different brands.
