Italy-Albania Migrant Agreement: Prime Minister Rama Confirms Collaboration
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama recently spoke about the agreement between Italy and Albania for the management of migratory flows. This protocol provides for the creation of reception centers on Albanian territory, which are managed directly by the Italian authorities. Rama stated that this collaboration will continue as long as Italy deems it necessary.
The agreement represents a central point of the Italian government's strategy to manage immigration. The main objective is to transfer some of the people rescued at sea to Albania to examine their asylum requests outside national borders. The centers, located in the towns of Shengjin and Gjadër, have become a unique example of external management of European borders.
During his latest statements, Edi Rama emphasized that Albania is ready to keep the centers active for as long as requested by Rome. He explained that his country wishes to help Italy, considered a historical partner and a fundamental ally. Despite the logistical and legal challenges encountered in the first few months, the Albanian Prime Minister strongly defended the validity of the project.
In Italy, the political debate on this issue remains very intense. While the government considers the agreement an effective solution to reduce arrivals, the opposition and various international organizations raise doubts about the economic costs and the protection of human rights. However, Rama's words confirm that diplomatic cooperation between the two countries remains solid and stable for the future.
