Migrants in Italy: arrivals decrease and repatriations increase
The Ministry of the Interior has published the official data regarding migration flows in Italy during the first six months of 2025. The report shows a significant change in border management, highlighting a major reduction in the number of people reaching Italian shores.
According to official statistics, migrant arrivals in our country have halved compared to the same period of the previous year. This drop represents a notable variation in the migration dynamics that have characterized the last few years in the Mediterranean.
Parallel to the decrease in entries, the government has intensified return procedures to countries of origin. Data indicate that repatriations have increased by 34 percent in the first half of the year, marking an increase in the bureaucratic and logistical management activities for migrants who have not obtained the right to asylum.
The Italian authorities continue to monitor the situation with attention, working in collaboration with European partners. The Ministry's goal remains to maintain constant control over the borders, seeking to balance national security with current international regulations.
