Economy: Confindustria calls for extending special zones to all of Italy
Emanuele Orsini, the president of Confindustria, has expressed his strong support for a new economic proposal concerning the entire country. The main idea is to extend Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to the entire national territory, thereby including the regions of Northern Italy as well. This initiative stems from a document prepared by regional governors and addressed to the central government.
Currently, SEZs are areas that offer significant tax benefits and bureaucratic simplifications to attract new investments. To date, these zones have been concentrated mainly in Southern Italy to promote the development of the Mezzogiorno. However, according to Orsini, extending these benefits to the entire peninsula would help Italian businesses grow in a more uniform and competitive manner.
The president of Confindustria emphasized that modern companies primarily need two things: speed and certainty. Indeed, excessive bureaucracy often slows down projects and discourages investors. By extending the SEZs, the hope is to drastically reduce waiting times for authorizations and create a more favorable environment for those who want to do business, from North to South.
In conclusion, the proposal for a special economic zone extended to all of Italy represents an attempt to modernize the national production system. If the government accepts this request, companies in every region could benefit from simpler and faster rules. It now remains to be seen what the official response from the institutions will be and what the timeline for implementing this plan will look like.
