Cigarettes more expensive in Italy: from 2027 the price will increase by 25 cents

Starting January 1, 2027, Italian smokers will face a new increase in the cost of cigarettes. According to recent provisions contained in the Budget Law, the price of each pack will see an increase of approximately 25 cents.

This decision does not come as a sudden surprise to consumers. The measure had already been planned by the government as part of its long-term economic programming, with the goal of adjusting tobacco prices to new fiscal and public health directives.

The price increase is a strategy often used by institutions to try to discourage tobacco consumption among the population. Beyond the economic aspect, the government aims to raise awareness among citizens about the risks associated with smoking, in line with health policies adopted in other European countries as well.

Tobacconists and authorized retailers will need to update their price lists as soon as the measure officially comes into force. Citizens are invited to prepare for this change, which is part of a general review of excise duties on smoking products planned for the coming years.
