Fire on GNV ship and death of an Italian tourist
Today is marked by incidents involving Italian citizens, including a fire on a ferry and a death abroad. Additionally, a significant financial seizure in Sicily and growth in gold exports in Tuscany have been reported.
A ship from the GNV company, the Azzurra Napoli, is stationary off the coast of Corsica after a fire broke out on board. The ferry had departed from Porto Torres, in northern Sardinia, and was stopped approximately 26 miles from the French coast. The fire was extinguished immediately, and there are no injuries among the passengers or crew members.
In the Dominican Republic, an Italian tourist has died following a fire at a resort. Local authorities reported that the woman suffered a respiratory crisis while on the beach, where she had run along with other guests to evacuate the burning hotel.
On the judicial news front, the Catania Guardia di Finanza has seized assets worth 1.4 million euros. The measure is linked to an investigation into a design company suspected of tax crimes and self-laundering—the reinvestment of illegally obtained profits into legal activities to hide their origin.
In the economic sphere, Tuscany recorded a sharp increase in exports in the first quarter of the year, driven by gold from Arezzo. Bullion sales to Switzerland increased tenfold, offsetting the decline in the jewelry sector and placing the region second in Italy for foreign sales.
Finally, in Romagna, the "Notte Rosa" events are beginning to celebrate the summer solstice. The program includes about 150 events across the territory, including a performance by the Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force's aerobatic demonstration team, scheduled for Sunday.
