Passports: boom in applications at Italian post offices
The passport issuance system in Italy is undergoing a phase of major change. Recently, the Ministry of the Interior recorded a significant increase in applications submitted through post offices, exceeding the threshold of 256,000 requests. This figure confirms the growing desire of Italians to travel abroad following the period of restrictions in recent years.
The project, born from the collaboration between Poste Italiane and the Ministry, aims to simplify citizens' lives. Thanks to the "Polis" service, it is now possible to request or renew a passport directly at the counters of authorized post offices, without necessarily having to go to the police headquarters (Questura). This initiative is designed primarily for small municipalities, where access to public administration services is often more difficult.
To complete the procedure, citizens must present the necessary documentation, including identity documents, photographs, and the payment receipt. Once the request is made at the counter, the document is then delivered directly to the applicant's home via registered mail. This system significantly reduces waiting times and travel for many families.
Despite the high number of applications, authorities emphasize that the system is handling the workload efficiently. The main goal remains to make bureaucracy faster and closer to people's daily needs, ensuring a modern and accessible service throughout the national territory.
In conclusion, the initiative represents an important step towards the digitalization and simplification of public services in Italy. Anyone intending to plan a trip outside the borders of the European Union is invited to check the availability of the service at their local post office to avoid delays in preparing their documents.
