Fire on GNV Azzurra ship: no injuries off the coast of Corsica
A GNV ship, named "Azzurra Napoli," is currently stationary off the coast of Corsica after a fire broke out on board. The vessel had departed from Porto Torres, in northwestern Sardinia, and was approximately 26 miles southwest of Propriano when the incident occurred.
According to initial official information, there are no injuries among either the passengers or the crew members. The blaze was brought under control almost immediately thanks to the promptness of the onboard staff, who immediately activated emergency procedures to extinguish the flames.
Although the fire was successfully extinguished, the ship has remained stationary at sea to allow for all necessary technical checks. Local maritime authorities are in constant contact with the ship's command to monitor the evolution of the situation and ensure the maximum safety of everyone on board.
At the moment, technicians are assessing the extent of the damage to determine if the ship will be able to resume navigation independently or if the intervention of a tugboat will be necessary. The situation remains under control, and no risks to the surrounding marine environment have been reported.
