Fuel price hikes: Codacons raises the alarm on pump prices
Codacons, the association for the defense of consumers, has launched a new alarm regarding the cost of fuel in Italy. According to the organization's estimates, the price of diesel could rapidly exceed the critical threshold of 2.4 euros per liter in the coming weeks.
The main concern regards the possible end of the tax relief measures currently in force. Without an extension of the excise duty cut by the government, costs for Italian families and the transport sector would suffer an immediate and significant increase, further aggravating the pressure on household budgets.
The increase in fuel prices does not only affect those who own a car, but has a chain reaction on the entire economy. Since most goods in Italy are transported by road, a rise in diesel prices inevitably leads to an increase in the prices of food products and basic necessities in supermarkets.
Codacons has formally asked the executive to intervene as soon as possible to avoid a new wave of inflation. The association suggests maintaining support measures to protect the purchasing power of citizens, which has already been severely tested by the high energy costs of recent months.
The situation therefore remains closely monitored by consumers and economic experts. In the coming weeks, the government will have to decide whether to confirm or modify current fiscal policies to respond to this economic emergency that involves the entire country.
