Fuel: Senate approves decree and strengthens commissioner's powers
The Italian Senate has given the final green light to the new fuel decree-law. The measure, which aims to manage price trends at the pump and ensure the security of energy supplies, was approved with the goal of stabilizing the national market.
One of the most significant innovations introduced by the text concerns the extraction sector. The government has decided to extend the powers of the extraordinary commissioner for drilling, granting them greater responsibilities to accelerate bureaucratic procedures. This measure aims to incentivize domestic natural gas production, thereby reducing Italy's dependence on foreign imports.
The decree also confirms the requirement for station operators to display the average regional price alongside the prices charged. This regulation, already introduced in recent months, is intended to increase transparency for consumers, allowing motorists to compare costs and choose the most affordable service stations.
Despite criticism from some trade associations, which fear an increase in administrative burdens, the government maintains that the decree is necessary to protect the purchasing power of Italian families. The executive branch has reiterated that constant price monitoring will remain a priority to avoid unjustified speculation.
With the final approval in Parliament, the new rules are now effective throughout the national territory. In the coming months, the competent authorities will evaluate the impact of these regulations on the energy market and the effectiveness of the new extraction procedures.
