Carlo Ancelotti breaks his silence: here is why he turned down the Italian national team bench
Carlo Ancelotti, one of the most successful football coaches in history, has finally explained the reasons behind his historic refusal to lead the Italian national team. At a time of great difficulty for Italian football, the Federation had tried to entrust the bench to the coach from Reggiolo, but an agreement was never reached.
According to what the coach stated, the decision was dictated mainly by his desire to continue working on the pitch on a daily basis. Ancelotti explained that the role of head coach, which involves intermittent work with the players, did not suit his professional philosophy, which prefers constant contact with the team throughout the entire sporting season.
The coach also emphasized his deep bond with Italy, clarifying that the refusal was not dictated by a lack of affection for his country. On the contrary, he expressed his desire to see the national team return to the pinnacle of world football, while reiterating that, at that stage of his career, managing a club represented a more stimulating challenge that was better suited to his needs.
Ancelotti's words close a chapter that sparked much debate among Italian fans, who were divided between those who would have wanted a profile with such experience leading the Azzurri and those who instead understood the coach's professional choice. Today, Ancelotti continues to reap success abroad, confirming his status as one of the benchmarks of international football.
This story remains a significant example of how the choices of great sports figures are often influenced not only by technical issues, but also by a personal vision of their work. For Italy, the national team's path has continued on other roads, while the debate over what could have been with Ancelotti remains a recurring theme among enthusiasts.
