Illegal waste trafficking to Pakistan: 28 individuals and companies under investigation
A major operation conducted by Italian authorities has led to the opening of an investigation into a vast illegal waste trafficking scheme. The investigations are focusing on a complex system that involved the unauthorized export of waste materials from Italy to Pakistan.
In total, 28 parties are involved in these legal proceedings. Among them are 16 individuals and 12 companies operating in the waste management, transport, and brokerage sectors. Authorities are verifying whether the disposal procedures complied with the strict environmental regulations in force in Italy and internationally.
According to initial information, the system was used to move large quantities of waste to foreign countries illicitly, bypassing necessary checks and the costs associated with the proper treatment of materials. This type of activity poses a serious risk to the environment and public health, as waste is often not handled safely.
Law enforcement agencies continue to gather evidence to reconstruct the entire network of responsibility. The investigation aims to clarify the role of each company involved and to determine the extent of the illegally exported material. This is a significant case that highlights the need for stricter oversight in the industrial waste recycling and disposal sector.
