Tragedy in Rome: pedestrian struck and killed by a taxi on the Lungotevere
A serious road accident occurred in the last few hours in Rome, in the heart of the historic center. A man lost his life after being struck by a taxi while crossing the Lungotevere dei Vallati.
Patrols from the I Gruppo Centro Storico of the Rome Capital Local Police arrived immediately at the scene of the accident. The officers proceeded to temporarily close the affected stretch of road to allow for rescue efforts and the necessary investigations to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the event.
Despite the timely arrival of 118 emergency medical personnel, there was nothing that could be done for the victim. The doctors could only confirm the man's death due to the serious injuries sustained in the impact with the vehicle.
The authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the responsibilities of the taxi driver, who stopped immediately after the impact to provide assistance. Investigators are now analyzing witness statements and footage from surveillance cameras in the area to determine if the pedestrian was in the crosswalk at the time of the accident.
This tragic event reignites the debate on road safety in large Italian cities, where heavy traffic and the coexistence of vehicles and pedestrians represent a constant challenge for urban mobility.
