The victim was dismembered - the killer (31 years old) was living as an asylum seeker in Vienna
Vienna police arrested a 31-year-old Afghan citizen suspected of involvement in a brutal murder that occurred in Turkey, following intensive investigations and an international arrest warrant. The officers of the Landeskriminalamt Wien (Vienna Criminal Police Office) and the Ermittlungsbereich Assistenz (Investigation Assistance Department) managed to locate him after years of searching.
With the assistance of the special police unit WEGA (Vienna Intervention Force), the suspect was arrested at 8:15 AM on Monday in the Floridsdorf area of Vienna. Turkish authorities accuse him of being involved in a horrific crime where the victim was found dismembered. The suspect had been residing in Austria as an asylum seeker after fleeing Turkey.
According to investigators, the crime dates back to 2020 in the Turkish province of Sakarya. The suspect, known by the initials M.K., is believed to have killed another Afghan citizen. Media reports indicate that he was living with an Afghan family and entered into a relationship with the victim's wife, leading to a violent dispute between the two men.
Investigations indicate that the suspect beat the woman's husband to death, then dismembered his body and placed the remains in two bags in the Adapazarı area. After six months, the remains were found in the Çark Stream in the Serdivan area, while the suspect had fled Turkey. Local reports also indicated that the wife and her children had disappeared.
After nearly five years, Austrian authorities succeeded in tracking down the suspect, who was transferred to prison awaiting the completion of legal proceedings. The fate of the wife and their three children remains unknown, while Turkish media reports suggest that they may also be under suspicion in the case.
