Wearable Devices and Our Health: Should We Trust the Numbers or Our Own Senses?
Recently, an increasing number of people are using "wearable devices" such as smartwatches to manage their health. These devices, which record steps, heart rate, and sleep quality, are gaining attention as convenient tools for objectively understanding one's own body.
However, experts have also pointed out concerns about relying too heavily on this data. The numbers shown by these devices are merely guidelines and do not necessarily reflect all the changes in physical condition or mood that we actually feel.
What happens if we start trusting the numbers displayed on a screen more than our own bodily sensations? There is a risk that we might push ourselves too hard if the data indicates we are "healthy" even when we feel unwell, or conversely, feel unnecessary anxiety because the data looks poor.
Wearable devices are meant to support a healthy lifestyle. It can be said that the important thing is not only to use the numbers provided by technology as a reference but also to listen carefully to the voice of your own body.
